FANO There was a moment, when the new mayor took the floor after the passing of the tricolor sash, in which Massimo Seri looked down and struggled to control the emotion in the council room overflowing with journalists, TV operators, employees , former directors and, above all, members of the new majority.
«Mayor for life»
«A mayor remains a mayor for life – stated Luca Serfilippi -. I saw it with Stefano (Aguzzi, ed.), I see it today with you. Ten years ago I was on the other side, I remember that I left the municipality a little crying because when you manage your city you always dedicate more than one hundred percent of yourself.”
Not only institutional respect and fair play, the ceremony that took place yesterday afternoon in the Town Hall for the handover between the outgoing and incoming mayor was protected from effect and emotion.
A sincere affection
A sincere affection between Massimo Seri and Luca Serfilippi, who in addition to their commitment in the city council over the last 5 years (albeit on opposite sides) have also shared volunteering in Avis, and a lively emotion for the alternating electoral dynamics with the memory of the defeat of the fragmented center-right 10 years ago (in which the current mayor was a councilor) which overlapped with today’s searing defeat of the divided center-left.
«This transition is always exciting – commented Seri, who had experienced it with roles reversed in 2014 with Aguzzi -. 10 years of representing this extraordinary city that I and we loved have come to an end. The goal is to do beautiful things but we don’t always succeed, this is an important responsibility because Fano has 60 thousand inhabitants with its own complexities.”
The relationship with citizens
«If I can give you some advice – he underlined -, from father to son or from older brother because the difference is great (23 years, ed.), take care of the relationship with people, to make them understand that you are always there even in difficult moments, this community is like a big family. I pass you an important witness, I also do it with pleasure because I’ve known you for a long time, you’re a good guy, don’t let yourself be influenced too much because the dynamics of coalitions doesn’t always help you. Always put the love of the city before everything.”
Accounts in order
Seri said he is leaving a municipality in good condition, which has capacity and professionalism from which results have been obtained even in difficult times that cannot be taken for granted, comparing them with those of other realities. “I’ll also leave you some problems,” he joked, arousing general laughter.
The former mayor highlighted how Fano is one of the least indebted administrations, listing some expenditure items. In particular, works worth 72 million euros out of 110 are underway (therefore works worth almost 40 million must be started). Among applause, jokes and laughter, the symbolic key to the city and the tricolor sash were handed over, initially worn backwards by Serfilippi (because after the speech an additional pose was necessary to take correct photos).
Thanks to the knowledge he derives from having been in the opposition, Serfilippi gave credit to Seri for the accounts ordered by the Municipality (except separately expressing concern to him about the soaring costs of the construction site in Piazza Costa blocked again by archaeological finds) .
The change of pace
He said that his majority wants to get to work with the burden and honor of making the city change pace according to the expectations of the people of Fano demonstrated by his victory in the first round.
Recalling that 10 years ago he went to the house of Caterina Del Bianco, who had assumed her powers as a former councillor, to leave the deliveries of the projects, Serfilippi appreciated the style of Seri (and also of part of the council) referring to the experience of the scouts, compared to when the locks on the doors were also changed when the administration changed.
«Thank you Massimo, thank you mayor – was his final tribute -. Today a new journey begins.” The first meeting of the mayor with the Fano party secretariats to discuss the new council is scheduled for 6pm.
