Caserta – With the aim of ensuring holistic assistance to cancer patients, attentive to the psycho-physical well-being of patients and their families, the “Sant’Anna e San Sebastiano” Hospital of National Importance and High Specialization of Caserta inaugurated, this morning, a solidarity library, set up in the waiting room of the complex Medical Oncology operational unit, directed by Professor Michele Orditura.

The initiative was born in collaboration with the Italian Red Cross – Caserta Committee, as part of an agreement signed with the Aorn “Sant’Anna and San Sebastiano” to offer voluntary psycho-social support activities to Oncology patients and of the emergency room. The association, which provided both the furniture and the books, will manage the service on odd days.

The bookcase in the hospital as a sign of home, welcome and humanisation, was highlighted by the medical director of the Caserta Hospital, Angela Annecchiarico, who with Professor Orditura emphasized the importance and value of continuous collaboration with the Third sector associations, as it allows the requests of patients and their families to be more adequately addressed.

The mayor of Caserta, Carlo Marino, who spoke at the inauguration ceremony with the councilor Vincenzo Claudio Battarra, underlined how culture, of which a library is a vehicle, is an aggregative element of a community that identifies itself as such when there is brotherhood and humanity.

The president of the Caserta Committee, Teresa Natale, and the president of the Campania Regional Committee, Stefano Tangredi, insisted on the principle of humanity, as the inspiring source of its associative mission, for the Italian Red Cross. In the presence of the medical and nursing team of the Oncology UOC and a significant representation of operators from the Italian Red Cross, the library was blessed by the director of the Diocesan Pastoral of Caserta, Don Antonello Giannotti.
