The commitment of the Aldo Moro Institute continues, leading a network of eight schools (six in Puglia and two in Lazio) to promote Erasmus+ mobility projects for students and teachers in the field of professional training.

9 teachers, representing the majority of the schools in the network, have recently returned from a short mobility, where they had a course and training experience, participating in a course on the Maltese education and recruitment system.

As is known, the Erasmus+ VET (Vocational Education and Training) program is a program that is part of the broader Erasmus+ program, but focuses on professional training, offering valuable training opportunities abroad, which prove unique not only in terms of competence professional and also human growth.

The mobility took place on the beautiful island of Malta from 5 to 11 May 2024 and offered the participating teachers the opportunity to try their hand at topics relating to the strategies and policies implemented and still to be implemented by the Maltese government to face the new educational challenges of compulsory education, which starts precisely from the choice of which language to use in the public schools of a multicultural society such as the Maltese one, in which there is a very high percentage of foreign learners, or “migrant learners”, many of whom come from non-EU countries. EU such as Libya, Serbia, Syria and Pakistan. Promoting the value of inclusion in Malta means above all encouraging adequate education.

The participants also had the opportunity to visit a Maltese secondary education institution, la St Michael’s Foundation, whose foundation is the “ethic of care” of students and teachers, for a comparison with a school system that aims to promote diversity and self empowerment staff, and which is based on a student evaluation system based on the national criteria of School Based Assessment Policy and on a framework aimed at monitoring and evaluating the quality standards of Maltese education at all levels, the Quality Assurance Framework of Education.

In the training course at Malta Vocational Centre the teachers were able to enjoy the honor of attending the speech of the former Maltese education minister, Evarist Bartolo (centre in the photo), who enchanted the audience of meeting participants with his passionate but lucid vision of the role of politics in supporting education and training as a weapon for real social change, and has highlighted the critical issues, limits and potential of the school system. As he himself stated, «school is always part of something bigger. We need to change the quality of the social environment to change the quality of education, and not the other way around.”

Known for having been a staunch supporter of Erasmus+ projects for the creation of a bond between “European citizens”, the personality of Evarist Bartolo represents a source of pride for the educational community of Malta because he has the merit of having contributed significantly to improving the Maltese education system, he who as a former teacher “has lived in the school” and knows it from the inside.

In the following days, the course saw the participation of another personality from the world of Maltese education, Denise Gatt, Director for quality and standards in education of the Department of Education of Malta for a comparison on education systems in Europe.

At the educational moment, the tourist-cultural one combines very well with the visit of the main architectural and naturalistic beauties of the island.

Having successfully concluded this experience, the Aldo Moro Institute of Trani, accredited for the entire 2021-2027 programming period, together with the partner high schools (IISS Carafa of Andria, IISS De Nittis of Barletta, IISS Dell’Aquila-Staffa of San Ferdinando of Puglia, ITET Tannoia of Corato, IISS Cosmai of Bisceglie, IISS Da Vinci of Rome and IT Buonarroti of Frascati), is already working to promote the next applications, both from newly graduated students and teachers, for the new year of the 2024 Accreditation.

And the journey continues…
