Taranto, “Turning Goals into Actions

TARANTO – A discussion to learn about best practices, emerging technologies and policies necessary to drive a significant transformation towards a low environmental impact economy. Taranto is the protagonist of a highly prestigious international event, organized by the House of Emerging Technologies Calliope in collaboration with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada. Friday, June 14, 2024 (from 10:30 to 16:15) the Cathedral of San Cataldo will host the works of “Turning Goals into Actions – Research and Innovation for climate change mitigation”. At the center is the desire to translate climate objectives into concrete and tangible actions. A real challenge of these times, in which innovation and international cooperation play a crucial role in promoting sustainable and resilient solutions for the planet.

The initiative is sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy and is a satellite conference of the G7. During the day, top-level speakers from the international scientific and academic community will discuss. Among them, Professor Cathryn Tonne of the Institute for Global Health in Barcelona and co-director of the Lancet Countdown for Health and Climate Change in Europe, Patrick Verkooijen, CEO of the Global Center on Adaptation, Denis Leclerc at the summit of the Canada Cleantech Alliance, Ruggiera Sarcina, Italy director of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada and many others. Institutional greetings are entrusted to the mayor of Taranto, Rinaldo Melucci.

“The target – the promoters anticipate – it is the sharing of knowledge, research, projects and solutions to address the climate crisis effectively, analyzing causes, consequences and possible solutions to mitigate the impact of the climate crisis on the environmental ecosystem and on human health”. A particularly sensitive issue for the city of Taranto and on which Calliope is working in a targeted manner with the concept of “One Health” and, therefore, “single health” as a guideline. Specifically, it is a research project created to understand the link between human, environmental and animal health, through the development of a technological platform that adopts a citizen-centric approach and will be able to provide the competent authorities with useful tools to guide interventions to protect health and biodiversity, especially from the effects of climate change.

Thematic panels and presentations are scheduled for June 14th. This is a valuable opportunity to accelerate collaboration between countries and international working groups to drive progress towards a greener and fairer future for all. The event is a continuation of what happened last year, when the CTE Calliope took part in a meeting in Canada as an Italian delegation, together with the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, the Ugo Bordoni Foundation and a large group of startups to share experiences, good practices and ideas for future community scenarios.

The House of Emerging Technologies of Taranto is made up of over thirty partners led by the Municipality of Taranto, including public bodies, research centers, universities, competence centers, innovative startups and large companies.
