The president of Fidas Vicenza, Mariano Morbin: “We return every year to this place, which energizes us and encourages us to work harder and better on the generosity front”
Hundreds of donors are expected on Sunday 30 June 2024 from 11.30 am at the donor’s church on Monte Cengio, to renew the important promise to donate their blood.
“The Donor Festival of Fidas Vicenza is a great event, a moment of sharing and commitment that sees us united and convinced in renewing our act of convinced generosity. The changing needs of the transfusion system in recent years – explains the provincial president of Fidas Vicenza, Mariano Morbin – encourages us to continue in our commitment, ever more assiduously, also encouraging citizens, especially young people, to become donors. We cannot fail to note the critical issues of the blood collection centers in the province of Vicenza, both for the shortage of doctors, now chronic, and, more recently, for the introduction of a new system for making appointments, which generates further complexity in an associative system that is mainly based on volunteering”.
At 11.30, in the presence of all the leaders of the Groups and Areas of the Association, the holy mass will be celebrated.
The birth of the small church of Monte Cengio
We remember that the birth of the small church of Monte Cengio dates back to 1974, when on 5-6 October the Association hosted its 13th National Congress in Vicenza. On this occasion he inaugurated the donor’s church, built with enthusiasm by donors from the Alto Vicenza area on land made available by a donor from Cogollo del Cengio.
“Our little church is a place of reflection that attracts donors, but not only – concludes President Morbin – every day of the year. When you enter you can clearly feel the commitment of thousands of people who have walked over the few square meters that characterize this sacred place imbued with solidarity. The passion of blood donors is also transmitted in this way and, precisely in this spirit, the day will also represent the opportunity to renew thanks to all donors and volunteers for their daily commitment to solidarity”.
The small church of Monte Cengio has always been a regular meeting point for all donors from both the province of Vicenza and the Veneto.
