Notwithstanding that the maintenance of urban greenery it is a fundamental activity, it is also true that when dealing with plants and trees there are times and rules to respect.
The association “EnvironmentsI love Cerignola” reported some pruning interventions on city trees that are taking place in recent days, publicly raising a quite legitimate doubt: “Since we are now close to summer, quite late in spring, does it make sense to prune the trees now, given that they are in the midst of their growth and, in some cases, flowering?”
According to some farmers and pruning experts, interventions of this type should be carried out in winter, while they are absolutely to be avoided in spring, when the tree is in full leaf vegetation.
Furthermore, pruning should be carried out “as a work of art“, avoiding badly cutting the branches or pollarding the crowns of the trees.
What happened, however, to the trees on Viale delle Fornaciwhich were pruned without any criteria (some citizens documented the operation with images that speak for themselves).
Pruning that is poorly carried out or carried out in an inappropriate period (like this one, at the turn of summer) can cause, in the future, unhealthy and regular growth of the tree and, after a few years, even its death.
The real risk is that in five or six years the trees in our city will be completely ruined, and therefore no longer able to provide us with shade, shelter and oxygen.
