CHIETI – An international framework in which to represent the country by bringing the Abruzzo experience. This is the meaning of the participation of the General Director of the ASL Lanciano Vasto Chieti Thomas Schael as part of the Italian delegation to MEDITeH BEYOND, the Summit underway in Catania promoted to facilitate meetings between institutions, such as Ministries and Embassies, companies involved in the scientific-technological sector in the healthcare sector and scientific and technological research institutes.

The meeting, promoted by the Diplomatia Foundation – Health Policy Commission, is aimed at healthcare bodies, companies, institutions and experts in the world of e-Health and telemedicine interested in the exchange of knowledge and scientific-technical contents on Digital Health and telemedicine. The Italian contribution also concerns the Abruzzo experiences, with the Region’s “House of Health” model and, on the Internal Areas front, the experimental Telemedicine project developed by the Local Health Authority for the Alto Vastese area, aimed mainly at the protection of chronic patients and to the lack of professionals available to work in disadvantaged areas, starting with general practitioners.

“It makes me proud to bring Abruzzo into a highly qualified international context – underlines Schael –. We need to rethink our care models in light of today’s conditions, which are not even comparable to those of ten years ago. New technologies come to our aid, they allow us to overcome critical issues and recover efficiency, and we must learn to use them as soon as possible. This is why the discussion of these days is precious, because it allows us to share best practices and make our healthcare system grow.”

The Summit aims to spread knowledge on the topics of digital innovation, its potential, its application in healthcare and the implementation of telemedicine services between the countries of the Mediterranean, Africa and the Middle East and is the first step in building a network lasting collaboration, for the development of medicine through digital technology. In addition to Italy, Albania, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Croatia, Jordan, Greece, Malta, Morocco, Montenegro, Slovenia and Turkey have joined.

At the end of the work, a collaborative network will be created to give support and impetus to medical-scientific development programs for digital health and telemedicine services. These collaborations will be organized with the sharing of the multidisciplinary work of the delegates and representatives belonging to the network representing their own countries.
