Alexandria – For two days, 24 and 25 May, Alessandria will be the capital of Italian popular music.
On the initiative of the Municipality of Alessandria and Piemonte dal Vivo, the first edition of “Sguardi”, a popular music festival, will take place in Piazza Santa Maria di Castello, as part of the Borgo Rovereto Festival. On the occasion of the Festival, the prizes named after Betti Zambruno and Roberta Alloisio will be awarded, excellent performers and attentive scholars of popular music, in its different meanings and territorial and cultural roots.
An integral part of the “Sguardi” program is “The Island Rediscovered Tells Ezio Poli”, an installation set up in the historic headquarters of the cultural club, in via Santa Maria di Castello 8, to remember the great organizer who recently passed away.
The program includes, for the first evening of Friday 24 May, from 8.30 pm onwards, the presentation of the Roberta Alloisio Lifetime Achievement Award to singer-songwriter Teresa De Sio and the first segment of the documentary “L’Isola”.
Followed by the concerts of Simone Campa Trio, of Motus Laevus – a research musical group led by Edmondo Romano, with whom Roberta Alloisio collaborated for a long time, who will be awarded the Prize for musical research and experimentation.

The second evening, Saturday 25 May, includes, again from 8.30 pm, the awarding of the Betti Zambruno Lifetime Achievement Award to the singer Tosca and the second segment of the documentary “L’Isola”.
Following the concerts of Tre Martelli, a historic Alessandria group of which Betti Zambruno was the singer, Ponente Folk Legacy – a folk group which will be awarded the Betti Zambruno Prize for new languages in traditional popular music. To conclude the Tosca concert.
