L’AQUILA – “The return of the former Campomizzi barracks to the State Property Agency represents the total failure of the student policies of the Abruzzo Region and the Municipality of L’Aquila – this is what the group leader of the Democratic Party in the L’Aquila Municipal Council Stefano Albano states –
Having passively lost the use of such a structure, which from the earthquake emergency onwards housed the student residence, the student canteen and the offices of the Company for Education Law – recalls Albano – means not having any vision of student policies and the services that university students need, especially from the residential point of view.
Thinking that the Il Moro complex, between Pettino and Cansatessa where the accommodations have been located, is an adequate solution means having a distorted and partial vision of the needs of the students and also of the city, and demonstrates how there has been a total lack of foresight and planning but we are reduced, once again, to finding answers only once the problem has taken on the characteristics of an emergency – continues the leader of the Democratic Party.
The city of L’Aquila and all the institutional forms called upon to manage it lack a plan for the future – Albano points out – which brings together housing needs with the need to permeate the student reality into the social fabric, rather than creating peripheral ghettos. In this context, we must not forget the project of the Board of Merit, which has been stalled for years now, whose fate we still do not know today, and which should have been contemplated in a much broader strategy which also allows us to make our more attractive territory.
“It is good to remember – continues the PD group leader – that the Board of Merit requires a three-year process at the end of which the ministry decides with a definitive opinion whether a city has the capacity to host it – with the relevant ministerial funds – or whether it will have to maintain it alone without state support. I don’t think that right-wing university policies are leading the city towards a positive opinion.
I would also like to point out that, as Pierpaolo Pietrucci recalled, if our University is not included among the best 40 in Italy in the Censis ranking – continues Albano – the greatest responsibilities are to be attributed to the Municipality and the ADSU which is responsible for providing the services for students, such as connections which today are lacking and there are difficulties even in finding the timetables of the few city bus routes.
Finally, regarding the announcements that affect the centre-right – concludes the leader of the Democratic Party – I invite everyone to show greater sobriety, without necessarily having to transform ordinary administrative actions, such as the opening of a canteen or even its functioning, into glorious goals!”.
