Bologna, two new assistance and emergency centers in hospital. And a maxi plan for the Major

Two new Cau, the assistance and emergency centers that respond to urgent but not serious health problems, are open from Monday to Bologna city. Both in hospital areas. The first, and it is also the first case of an inter-company centre, is in the outpatient clinic building pavilion 2 of Sant’Orsolaa few steps from the emergency room via Albertoniwhile the second is in thebuilding L of the Maggiore hospital, with access from the main hall. And speaking of Major the mayor Matteo Leporand announced that with the Region it is working on a major development plan for the Largo Nigrisoli garrison, with an interest in the surrounding area. This is an investment of approx 400 million euros«we put in the first 30 and they are for the expansion of the maternal and child center – explains the regional health councilor Raffaele Donini —, the others will also be found in project financing.” The emergency-urgency area will be affected, expanded and improved, with the emergency room always in difficulty, but the details of the plan will be presented in the coming weeks.

Cau, how many are there and how do they work

As is known, the Caus were created, at the behest of the Region, precisely to streamline the waiting times for the PS and to relieve them of urgent but not serious cases, the white and green codes. TO Bologna four have already been opened (Budrio, Vergato, Navile and Casalecchio) which recorded 32 thousand accesses, in addition to those inaugurated yesterday morning. «Within the year they will be ten – explains the general director of the ASL Paolo Bordon —, the next one will be a Saint Lazarus». «With these two we plan to respond to around 150-200 people a day – he adds Donatella Pagliacci, director of the Primary Care department of the Local Health Authority -, it is essential for us to give the appropriate response in the most appropriate place”. The Cau will also be at Sant’Orsola and Maggiore open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day: two doctors, two nurses and a social-health worker work there from 8am to 8pm, plus a further support doctor between 12pm and 6pm, while at night, from 8pm to 8am, a doctor and a nurse are active. «The first cases addressed in the morning demonstrate that citizens are informed and understand for which pathologies they can access the Cau, we will try to understand what repercussions they will have on the other Cau in the area», adds Bordon.

The decrease in access

The one at Sant’Orsola is the first case of inter-company Cau: the doctors are from the local health authority while the nurses are from Sant’Orsola. «It is a piece of territory that enters Sant’Orsola – explains the general director Chiara Gibertoni —, is an interesting novelty for ours community through which we will try to strengthen the continuity of the paths of taking care of patients». As mentioned, it is currently located in pavilion 2 but in the future it should go to the Palagi pavilion. «In the region we have already reached 35 Cau and we have exceeded 150 thousand accesses – concludes Donini -. In some emergency rooms the accesses are decreased by 20% and we expect that the new investments can further reduce the use of the emergency room for low-complexity cases”.
