One against the two in 2022. A positive trend confirmed
Bank robberies halved in Calabria.
In 2023, in fact, only 1 bank robbery was carried out in the region compared to two in 2022, marking a decrease of 50%.
This is the picture that emerges from the data of Ossif, the Abi research center on security, which documents a decline in the phenomenon also at a national level: in the country, bank robberies went from 124 in 2022 to 80 in 2023 (- 35.5%).
In 2023, the so-called risk index – that is, the number of robberies per 100 branches – also drops, going from 0.6 to 0.4 at a national level and from 0.6 to 0.3 in Calabria.
The Ossif investigation was presented today at the Banking and Security conference, the two-day meeting on the key issues of bank security.
“Italian banks – it is said in a note – invest around 500 million euros every year to make their branches even more protected and secure. By adopting increasingly modern and effective protection measures and by training its employees also through a specific ‘Safety guide for counter operators’, created by Ossif in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and the Prefectures”.
Much of the credit – the note continues – can also be attributed to the new Memorandum of Understanding between the ABI and the Prefectures for the prevention of crime against banks and customers which, through dialogue, exchange of information, risk assessment and security measures, combats the criminal phenomenon of bank robberies in an increasingly effective way”.
