“I have the impression that the famous election campaign syndrome is starting to affect not only parties but also people; this is associated with a strange form of political amnesia for these people who forget with impressive ease the evolution of the City in these 4 years”.
This is what Mayor Federico Basile says regarding statements on the work of his administration.
“Today I hear a former Councilor of mine talking about a lack of planning. I wonder, but wasn’t it you who applauded the results achieved when the new Pon Plus 21 27 program was illustrated and at the presentation of the report on the first year of activity of my union?
I remind the former councilor that thanks to the planning and design activity carried out in recent years, and which is continuing to be implemented through tenders and works, it is possible to spend the sums that are intended for the Municipality of Messina , on the basis of a range of projects resulting from that strategy launched in 2018, which represents the political and administrative continuity from which my former councilor comes who today, for opportunistic and electoral reasons, obviously criticizes its contents.
However, the aspect of the technological HUB deserves a separate point because it is truly simplistic to think that the creation of such an important structure for the redevelopment of a central area of the City would pass exclusively through the SEZs.
Speaking of SEZs, I would like to remind you that the previous Special Economic Zone, which saw the Messina area among those benefiting from particular fiscal and tax instruments, was radically modified by the Meloni government already in November 2023, extending the area to the entire south relevant for the relevant application. I don’t remember, in this regard, interventions by Senator Musolino in defense of the Messinese SEZ, but I could be wrong.
Certainly, a central theme that this national government has overturned, but which does not preclude infrastructural investments capable of changing the economic face of the city, as was demonstrated by the presence in Messina, on the occasion of the recent Sud Innovation Summit, of representatives of the most important global companies in terms of digital and technological innovation, right in our city.
I only have a suspicion – concludes Mayor Basile – of someone who, when he was inside the municipal building, did not fully understand many things; but we are moving forward, the electoral campaign is still long.”
