He opened the gas valve because he wanted to blow up the building and wanted to take justice into his own hands against the condominium manager and the stairmaster. A 57-year-old man was arrested by the Turin police squad on charges of massacre and the arrest was validated by judge Giovanna Di Maria. According to the prosecution, the man, who lives in a building in Piazza Borgo Dora, unscrewed the valve with parrot pliers, closed the windows and left the house. The neighbors smelled the strong smell of gas and raised the alarm. One person also felt ill. After collecting testimonies and discovering that the man had previously attacked the administrator, the investigators looked for him and found him shortly afterwards in a garden. Inside his backpack he had an ax and pliers. He allegedly said to the police: “I wanted to take justice into my own hands. Those are scoundrels. We all have to die anyway.” He explained to the judge that he was in the grip of anger and his gesture was an instinctive one, “but I didn’t want to kill anyone, I thought – he added – that everyone had left the house”.
