Turin, the city of plants. A perfect definition to launch the second edition of the Green Festival which, from 20 to 26 May, will transform the subalpine capital into a hub of environmental respect, including the valorisation of the parks, the opening of the gardens of private historic homes, the involvement of children in initiatives to protect trees, a competition for the design of an urban green demonstration area. Without forgetting, obviously, the relationship between greenery and water, particularly felt in a city which – recalled the mayor Stefano Lo Russo – is crossed by 4 rivers.
However, starting precisely from this theme, the promises of the past have remained on paper. Because the initiative to further improve the Valentino park is excellent but Turin, the city of water, continues to not enhance the spaces intended to host other rowing clubs, perhaps with more affordable prices. And the same goes for Moncalieri, one of the neighboring municipalities involved in the Green Festival. Because greenery, in a municipality like Rivalta, abandoned by Fiat, has become a factor of attraction for new inhabitants looking for a healthier environment.
However, while waiting for the initiatives on the Po, Turin residents and tourists will be able to enjoy guided tours of the parks, in some cases with musical accompaniment. And also the activities carried out by the Web Garden cultural association, the Germogli exhibition which will transform Via Po into a street expo with the works of 16 illustrators. Initiatives also at the Botanical Garden, at the Fruit Museum, at the Academy of Agriculture. While the Royal Gardens will host Flor Primavera with 150 horticulturalists and farmers.
