Savona. On the occasion of catering day Fipe Confcommercio organized an event at Villa Zanelli in Savona scheduled for Thursday 16 May starting at 4pm. At 5pm a round table dedicated to local food and wine and raising awareness of food waste will begin. Producers (wines, oil, land products, truffles), processors and restaurateurs will be involved. The mayors will also be present.

On May 18th every restaurant will participate (165 members) by offering one of his dishes and promoting a fundraiser for the Italian Caritas.

“Anyone who has traveled the world knows that we Italians are considered the people who eat best and this is significant and important. We decided to do this initiative there to present this reality to our colleagues”, said the president of Confcommercio Enrico Schiappapietra. Ascom president Laura Chiara adds: “We have a rich program and have received confirmation from the people we invited.”

“We have always been very active. The choice of Villa Zanelli is not random, the Our aim has always been this: to promote the territory through food and wine tourism – comments Carlomaria Balzola, provincial Fipe president -. Sometimes we think of tourism only by thinking of beds, but we must also evaluate the seats. Catering is a tourism product. We must think in a comprehensive manner, connecting Andora to Celle and the hinterland to the coast. We will ask the municipalities to enhance the Decos because they create added value. We have seen the potential of the black truffle from Val Bormida. If we can expand the offer all year round there will also be more job opportunities.”

“The concept of doing certain types of work as a fallback is over – says Schiappapietra -. They are activities that allow you to live with dignity and have a satisfying career.”

In the Savona area, the catering sector leads the ranking of tourism businesses, employing hundreds of workers and many young people under the age of 30. In the province there are 1475 restaurants and 1242 bars out of 4290 businesses related to the Ccnl Turismo. 430 are bathing establishments, 398 hotels, 185 accommodation facilities, 186 ice cream parlors and pastry shops.

“After the crisis due to the pandemic – highlighted by Confcommercio – the catering has been able to recover and has returned to pre-Covid turnover levels“.

“The province of Savona is highly touristic in facts and numbers – underlines Schiappapietra -. It produces 30% of the GDP in the Savona area, is a number that must be considered and makes it clear how many families live thanks to this sector. Liguria has a quality tourist destination, we will never have the spaces that Veneto and Emilia Romagna have. We have a unique environment that must be respected but then presented and enhanced in the best possible way, which is the task of operators and municipal administrations.”
