The minds of most of those present immediately went back to July last year, when the building owned by the Versilia Supply Service company was completely destroyed, which in that case also highlighted the inefficiency of the hydrants along the road and in the area, which fortunately were found to be working yesterday morning.
They may have started the fire sparks caused by a grinding wheel used for the restoration work on the metal door, sparks ended up on the polystyrene that was in the shed which could have started the fire in the shed in via Savi, the same one where a pine tree fell on 3 May.
In the past, about 20 years ago, the building was one of the warehouses of the Versilia Supply Service company, which rented it to various companies, and is now used for the storage of materials. Inside there are 22 warehouses.
The firefighters who intervened on site with five teams, as well as from the viale Tobino detachment, with commander Silvano Lazzarini, also with reinforcements from Pisa, confirmed that the material found in the shed is of various kinds. An initial examination did not reveal that there were any toxic materials. The black smoke visible from a distance over the sea was also caused by the material of the warehouse itself.
Once the flames broke out, the first to intervene were the employees of Versilia Supply Service, whose headquarters are adjacent to the warehouse. One of the warehouse workers with a fire extinguisher began to put out the flames while waiting for the firefighters. It seemed that the fire had been partly put out, then there was a recovery. The firefighters, who entered the shed using breathing apparatus, prevented the flames from affecting the roof with the risk of collapse.
In the area, in addition to several workers from nearby companies, there were citizens who were headed towards Viale Europa and stopped to see what was happening. Together with the firefighters, personnel from the Port Authority, the Police and the Municipality intervened and closed part of the road to allow the firefighters to carry out extinguishing operations in total safety, who will now have to draw up a detailed report. , after further ritual investigations.
