Vittoria, “è Scenica Festival” – Canale74

The arts have invaded the city of Vittoria for the first weekend of the 16th edition of “Scenica Festival”. And there couldn’t have been a more overwhelming start.

The streets came alive, the squares crowded, the theaters filled and everywhere there was an echo of laughter, emotions and applause. The public of all ages invaded the historic center and attended all the scheduled events with great participation, registering several sold out events.

Circus, theatrical, musical and dance performances, but also photography, workshops, literary meetings and laboratories. A single great excitement thanks to Scenica promoted by the Santa Briganti cultural association, with the artistic direction of Andrea Burrafato, with the patronage of the Municipality of Vittoria, the Sicily Region and with the support of the Ministry of Culture.

A great confirmation, an engine of cultural growth for an international festival, once again, of the highest quality, varied and full of many new features. Opening last Friday 10 May with the regional premiere of “Jessica and me” by Cristiana Morganti, one of the most anticipated shows of this edition, hosted in the splendid Teatro Vittoria Colonna, recently reopened to the public.

The historic dancer of Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal brought an intimate and introspective performance to Scenica, in which she reflects on herself: on the relationship with her own body and with dance, on the meaning of being on stage, on the sense of the other self that involves making theatre.

Great participation for the concert by Stefano Barigazzi, singer and guitarist who moved the audience with his music full of contaminations, in which blues roots are intertwined with African music, funk, soul and Afrobeat. Saturday 11 May opened with the regional premiere of the children’s show “Tana”, by the TPO Company, which, with many reruns, entertained the young spectators who, enchanted, observed nature and animals together with the protagonists, in search of a “den” to safely face the darkness of the night, the cold, the rain, the sun.

Regional premiere also for the Zaches Teatro company, which returned to Vittoria with the show “Little Red Riding Hood” from the Fairy Tale Trilogy. Through dance, puppetry and original music, the forest was explored, a place of mystery and charm, of temptation and transgression. Six sold out performances for Circo El Grito, which in collaboration with Wu Ming Foundation, has once again made Scenica the stage for the preview of its shows.

“The known and the unknown – Studio #1”, born from the collaboration between the co-founder of the company Giacomo Costantini, the writer Wu Ming 2 and the multifaceted actress, pianist and acrobat Clio Gaudenzi, won over the public. Enchantment also with “Bakéké” by and with Fabrizio Rosselli, in which the protagonist, obsessed with geometric figures, found himself faced with many green buckets, unexpected events and enigmas. On Saturday evening the public in Piazza Ricca, with their noses in the air, witnessed the whirlwind of acrobatics of the Trio Circ while at the Chiostro delle Grazie the eclectic duo of “Wunder Tandem” won over the large audience present.

Sunday 12 May with “Itineradio”, the first appointment of the “Raccordi” section which, using “radio zapping” as a narrative device, explored different musical traditions and involved the multi-ethnic audience of a Piazza del Popolo in which there was an air of peace, welcome and integration. “Raccordi” is created in collaboration with the SAI (Integration Reception System) projects for ordinary adults, DM/DS and unaccompanied foreign minors, managed by the Municipality of Vittoria, and implemented by CSD – Servizi Inclusione, Cooperativa Iride, Cooperativa il Geranio, Cooperativa Area, Waldensian Diaconia, and intends to create bridges between cultures. Another important name of this edition is that of the international photographer Gabriele Stabile, present with the photographic exhibition entitled “Swim till I Sank” at Edonè Lab (open on weekends until May 26th from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm), and with the workshop “ Binomi_Magici, we work with images”. The talk with Massimo Siragusa, photographer and artistic director of the XII edition of the Ragusa Foto Festival and Stefania Paxhia, creator and executive director of the Ragusa Foto Festival, also aroused great interest.

Scenica Festival will continue to liven up the city of Vittoria throughout the week with the final shows of the workshop itineraries: Tuesday 14th at 9pm at the Chiostro delle Grazie with “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, with teenagers grappling with the adventures of Jules’ novel Verne; Thursday 16th at 7.30 pm in Sala delle Capriate with “All’ombra dell’asino” hosted by Peppe Macauda, starring children aged between 11 and 13; and at 9.30 pm at the Teatro Vittoria Colonna with “Arpagone”, a reinterpretation of “L’Avaro” by Molière with a massive number of participants.

Also on Thursday 16th at 8.30pm at the Chiostro delle Grazie the national premiere of the Doble Mandoble company will be performed with “La Belle Escabelle”, a circus show full of humor that masterfully mixes manipulation of objects, physical theater and acrobatics with a folding ladder at the centre. And from Friday 17th other unmissable events.
