ANCONA – La maritime station of the Doric port with its future destinations is back in the news after the news that emerged in recent days according to which the municipal council of Ancona, in agreement with the port authority, would like to create space for a parking with 120 parking spaces. The theme of its recovery, as a possible and fundamental landing place for a surface metro, had been discussed extensively, over a year ago, in the electoral campaign, and for the then mayoral candidate Daniele Silvetti the reopening of the maritime station had constituted one of the points of his program, as also reported by CentroPagina. Now, however, the about-face: port Authority And municipal administration of AnconaIn fact, they would be working on a project that is already well underway to find new parking spaces to be used as a car park serving the city centre. This could happen, in fact, by recovering between 120 and 150 parking spaces right in the area that housed the railway stop of the maritime station, close to the Da Chio quay.
A choice that the city councilor and vice-president of the council, as well as former mayoral candidate for Altra Idea di Città and Ancona Città Aperta, comments on Francesco Rubini: «There are two aspects of criticism of this choice: the first concerns the theme of a electoral promise on which the center-right supported its campaign, also linked to the fact that a lot of the progressive electorate had played on that issue, a promise that is melting like snow in the sun. I remember that this thing about reopening the maritime station and restoring the connection is written in Silvetti’s electoral program. The second is that beyond electoral promises, with a choice of this type Ancona risks losing the possibility forever to have an effective and sustainable mobility tool which would allow her to look at the best experiences in Europe and the world. Regarding the disused tracks from RFI and practically irrecoverable, Rubini continues: «Like all infrastructural choices, decisions are made through discussion among the actors involved. The passage of time will certainly have created problems of this type, but we are convinced that with a decisive and compact policy a solution would be found. There is no will to try to imagine alternative solutions».
