WEG Motion Drives solutions at SPS Italia 2024

WEGa company specializing in the production of motors, drives and gearboxes, will demonstrate to visitors SPS Italy how integrated motion packages can help companies on their journey towards industry 5.0, improving sustainability and resilience. The company will illustrate its latest innovations as part of the WEGmotion Drives package can help optimize efficiency, reliability and performance in strategic sectors, including food, recycling, metal and water treatment applications. WEG experts will be available at stand G051 in Pavilion three from 28 to 30 May 2024.

Industry 5.0: sustainable, human centric and resilient production” will be one of the main themes of SPS Italia. With new Industry 5.0 legislation set to be approved by the Italian Parliament in the coming weeks, helping companies make the transition to a more sustainable and resilient production model has never been more important. Motorized systems are the backbone of every industrial process and must be at the forefront of this transition. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), these systems are responsible for 53% of global electricity consumption, but new technologies can help reduce their energy demand by up to 30%.

WEG will demonstrate how strategic industries at the heart of the 5.0 transition can maximize efficiency and reliability. Dedicated ‘Islands’ will present the WEG Motion Drives solutions in specific applications, including paper production, food and beverage conveyor belts, recycling crushers and extruders, metalworking and water treatment plants.

“Electric motors, gearboxes and drives are the beating heart of most organizations undertaking the transition to 5.0,” explained Ilaria Mandelli, communications specialist and technical writer at WEG Automation Europe. “Our integrated approach to motion, which brings together motor, gear, drive and automation solutions in one package, enables customers of diverse applications to simplify installation, minimize maintenance requirements, optimize reliability and improve operational and energy efficiency, increasing the sustainability and resilience of the entire production line.”

As part of its latest integrated solutions, WEG will present the new TPD500 AC/DC converter, which offers greater efficiency, safety and adaptability to industrial applications. While maintaining full backward compatibility with its predecessor, the TPD500 offers improved performance thanks to greater accuracy, precision and resolution of current and speed. Furthermore, seamless integration into Ethernet-based fieldbus systems, combined with the new WEG DriveLabs PC configurator via Modbus TCP, enables remote control and Wi-Fi connectivity.

WEG will also present the EXP-ETH-xxx-ADV200 communication boards for ADV200 inverter family. These devices allow seamless integration with the most advanced Ethernet-based fieldbus systems, including Profinet, Ethernet-IP and Ethercat, ensuring compatibility with modern industrial networks. The new cards facilitate local peer-to-peer communication to simplify commissioning and maintenance, and remote access for service operations.

Visitors will also be able to discover the new W23 Sync+ engine line, which offers unprecedented efficiency at all speeds thanks to the combination of permanent magnets (PM), ferrite or neodymium magnets and synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) technologies. In this way, the motor maintains high levels of efficiency even under variable speed and load conditions. The W23 Sync+ is available in IE5 and IE6+ efficiency classes, making it one of the most efficient motors on the market.
