Avl Italia closes 2023 with growing revenues (+3%) and orders (+6%).

Avl Italia won a tender in the green hydrogen sector for public road and rail transport in 2024

Avl Italia has approved the 2023 budget data and is preparing for the turning point in 2024 with new orders in the hydrogen storage sector for train mobility. Furthermore, the engineer hiring program continues, thanks also to the company training project H-Demia.

2023 budget with growing revenues and orders

The 2023 budget closes with an increase in turnover by 3%, from 129 million euros in 2022 to 133 million in 2023, and with an increase in order volumes of 6%. Employees increased from 317 to 359, a growth of 13%. In the past year, a total of more than 10 million euros were invested, especially in the purchase of previously rented machinery and spaces. As regards the business sectors, those of electrification and connectivity, i.e. self-driving dialogue systems, grew significantly in 2023. But combustion development has also recorded growth in order volumes, not only with regards to the traditional engine, but also and above all with regards to the hydrogen or hybrid engine.

«There are many areas that are growing – he explains Cristiano Auriemma, CFO of Avl Italia –. One of these, for example, is the development of new technologies for nautical mobility, where interesting solutions are being explored with hydrogen and mixed combustion. Avl Italia maintains its leadership position in the Italian market, thanks to its operational flexibility and ability to adapt to the numerous challenges that arise more and more quickly.”

Hydrogen: a production plant for rail transport

Also in the first months of 2024, Avl Italia’s activity focused on the new challenges of the market. In particular, the company won a tender in the green hydrogen sector for public road and rail transport. The project involves the construction of a 5MW green hydrogen production plant with on-site storage and related 350 bar refueling station, for local public transport trains and buses. The entire system will then be accompanied by a solar system powered solely by green energy, in full compliance with the conditions of eco-sustainability and operational efficiency.

«Avl Italia is also a main player for stationary hydrogen applications – he explains Dino Brancale, CEO of Avl Italia –. Today we are able to design hydrogen plants that include energy collection, production, storage, even in solid form, up to the distribution of gas, whether it is railway mobility, port mobility or along the transport backbones in long range. The awarding of the railway mobility project demonstrates Avl Italia’s commitment to technological innovation and the search for cutting-edge solutions to address global environmental challenges. The project will allow the development and implementation of innovative solutions in the hydrogen sector, promoting the transition towards a low-carbon economy. The study and design of similar systems to be implemented within ski areas is also being examined.”

The tenth edition of H-Demia is underway

Also to implement the railway mobility project, the construction of the hydrogen cell – in the Technical Center of Cavriago (Re) -, a latest generation room capable of testing hydrogen engines, and the hiring of new figures are planned in 2024. to be included in the workforce, specifically engineers. To support the expansion of the workforce, the tenth edition of H-Demia is starting, an exclusive and highly qualifying training program aimed at young talents passionate about the automotive sector, aimed at creating a solid bridge between the academic world and the world of work. This is a training course designed by AVL to encourage and accelerate the inclusion of young profiles to support the activities carried out for customers nationally and internationally. The path includes a period of classroom training with some Avl experts and a period at the customer’s site, with periodic evaluations. The duration is 9 weeks. The topics covered are: Automation systems; High voltage battery management; Tool for data post-processing; Tool for optimizing engine calibrations; Solutions for testing electrified systems; Instrumentation for measuring emissions; Instrumentation for measuring fuel consumption; Instrumentation and SW Indicating; Simulation tools.

The collection of applications yes will close on May 20th. The candidates selected after the evaluation of their CVs will be contacted for an initial interview. The final selection will take place during the two Recruiting Days, scheduled on 22 and 23 May at the Technical Center in Cavriago. During the Recruiting Days, candidates will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the objectives and themes of the program through a dedicated presentation and to participate in individual interviews with technical and HR experts.
