Monza is increasingly “smart”: here are the new green projects

Monza plans a greener and “smarter” future with roofs and warehouses transformed into hanging gardens and soil depaving. The municipal initiative involves the creation of “green” roofs and the recovery of the most concreted areas of the city. Let’s see all the details.

Monza transforms into a smart city thanks to innovative environmental projects presented during the “Monza Fast Future“. Among the proposed initiatives, the introduction of green roofsthe installation of photovoltaic panels, the depaving to promote soil regeneration, preventive measures against floodingwater purification systems, district heating and also the “green” renovation of the railway station.

Monza: how the city becomes increasingly sustainable

With the approval of the “Urban sustainable mobility plan” the municipal administration is preparing various projects for make Monza a more sustainable and “smart” city. The initiative sees collaboration between local and environmental authorities and an investment of 2.8 million euros.

The funds, obtained from a tender by the Cariplo Foundation, were redirected towards immediate interventions such as the depaving- to convert waterproofed soil into green areas – elinstallation of photovoltaic panels and green roofs. Road improvements are also planned to prevent road flooding caused by increasingly “extreme” climatic phenomena.

Projects to make Monza greener and “smarter”

The depaving in Monza they aim to make the urbanized area greener, with tree-lined avenues along via Borgazzi in coordination with the works of the M5 metro. As regards infrastructure, the Municipality is considering both photovoltaic and green roofs especially for subway stations. In particular, the latter guarantee thethermal insulationreduce temperatures in the city and also reduce fine dust, while improving water management and environmental sustainability.

Further projects concern the city ​​water purification and the implementation of a system of district heating that uses heat from power plants or industrial excess. Furthermore, a 12-month project has been announced for the redevelopment of the central railway station. It will follow the model of Scalo Farini in Milan, aiming to improve accessibility and increase the number of green areas.

The goal is to create an urban environment that minimizes pollution and traffic, combats social isolation and reduces residents’ daily stress.
