New face for the Via Marina of Reggio Calabria: the interventions

A major redevelopment project is about to transform the Matteotti seafront Of Reggio Calabriaan intervention that promises to renew and enhance the ‘most beautiful kilometer in Italy’.

The project, presented this morning at Palazzo San Giorgio – we read in the project – it covers an area of ​​approximately 1.7 km from Piazza Indipendenza to Piazza Garibaldi and is part of the historical and cultural context of Reggio Calabria, with the intention of preserving and enhancing the already existing heritage.

The seaside Matteottialso known as Lungomare Falcomatais adorned with Art Nouveau buildings and archaeological sites that tell the thousand-year history of the city, from ancient Greece to Roman times.

There retraining involves a series of interventions aimed at improving not only the aesthetics of the area but also its functionality. They will come sidewalks restored damaged by the roots of centuries-old trees, and naturalistic engineering techniques will be used to integrate the existing vegetation into the urban context.

Furthermore, the project includes the installation of permanent works which will enrich the cultural and recreational offer of the seafront. The “staff green“, as the pedestrian route has been called, will design an itinerary that winds harmoniously along the coast, inspired by the shape of a musical pentagram, thus emphasizing the link between nature and the arts.

The project is divided into various phases, with the first which will see the construction of modular fences along the construction site to ensure safety and minimize the impact of the works on the daily life of the city. The entire redevelopment will last approximately 10 months overall, with an initial four-month phase dedicated to the most critical infrastructure.
