When she decided to launch a fundraiser for rehabilitation costs, one year after the car accident that still leaves her brother Sergio in bed, Laura Cusumano did not expect this avalanche of solidarity.
Instead, in two days, over twenty thousand euros were donated on GoFundMe, thanks to 575 donations, for the 33-year-old from Marsala hospitalized in a clinic in Northern Italy.
Sergio had moved to Milan in 2011, where he worked as a courier: “he is an artist, a sportsman (surfer, windsurfer, snowboarder, skier), a free soul and above all a dreamer”, says his sister.
After the car accident on May 26, 2023, he underwent various operations and three months ago he began a rehabilitation program in an affiliated facility. Once his hospitalization is over, Sergio’s journey towards complete recovery will be characterized by physiotherapy, speech therapy and rehabilitation exercises which will have significant costs.
“We are hopeful that, with the right care and the right time, Sergio can get back on his feet and can go back to enjoying life as he always has and as he has demonstrated in these long months of ordeal where he never gave up,” writes Laura.
