Tragic accident in the early afternoon of Sunday 12 May. The alarm went off shortly after 1pm in Medolago when a 16-year-old boy disappeared in the water and was later recovered lifeless by rescuers. From the information gathered, the young man was with his family on the “beach” of Medolago – very popular on holidays – when he decided to take a bath. This is a 16-year-old boy of South American origins, resident in the Milan area: the young man swam to the opposite bank of the river but, when he attempted to return to shore in the second crossing, he was unable to due to the strong current.
He called for help several times and was then seen going under water. Several people, from both banks, tried to save him by diving into the water. Attempts were in vain, rescuers intervened quickly.
Rescuers in the Medolago area
The firefighters of Monza and Milan arrived with an ordinary team, the water rescue specialists, the divers and the air rescuers of the Lombardy Flight Department on board the “Drago 141” helicopter.
