Pozzuoli earthquakes, new seismic sequence in the Campi Flegrei area

The Vesuvian Observatory has communicated to the Municipal Administration of Pozzuoli that “starting from 08:39 a sequence of seismic events is underway in the Campi Flegrei area. At the time of issue of this press release, 5 earthquakes with magnitude Md≥ 0.0 and maximum magnitude Md=1.7± 0.3 had been preliminarily detected“. The most significant event, as explained in a note, was “located in the Gulf of Pozzuoli, it occurred at 08:39, local time, at a depth of 4.7 km with magnitude Md=1.7± 0.3“. The event “it may have been accompanied by a roar felt by the inhabitants of the areas close to the epicentre”.

In consideration of the above “the Municipal Administration together with the Civil Protection of the municipality of Pozzuoli is closely following the evolution of the ongoing seismic sequence and will provide subsequent updates until the phenomenon is concluded. More information on the evolution of the uplift phase and the phenomena that accompany it can be found on the Vesuvian Observatory – INGV website (http://www.ov.ingv.it/ov/) and in the weekly and monthly bulletins of the Phlegraean Fields“.
