Five are running for mayor after Andrea Romizi. The long season (ten years) that has shaped the new political history of the capital comes to an end with the vote on 8 and 9 June for the municipal elections: the victory of the centre-right in 2014 in the run-off and a repeat in 2019 in the first round.
Five candidates with the alliance between the centre-right and civics which focuses on the Urban Planning councilor, Margherita Scoccia, 45 year old architect, (FdI). Eight party and civic lists support it. In addition to Fratelli d’Italia, Fare Perugia with Romizi-Forza Italia, Lega, Udc, Progetto Perugia, PerugiAmica, Futuro Giovani and Perugia Civica.
The center-left has seven lists of support for Vittoria Ferdinandi, 37, Knight of the Republic. With Ferdinandi in the field, the Pd, the Green Left Alliance. Five Star Movement, Anima Perugia, Orchestra for Victory, Perugia Public Health and the federated Pensa Perugia which is outside of an Avanti Pact.
Massimo Monni, 64 year old former city councilor and regional councilor, is running alone with the Perugia Merita list. Also on the field is former Griffin Davide Baiocco, 49 years old. We support two lists. He was supposed to be the man for the landing in Perugia of the mayor of Terni, Stefano Bandecchi with his Popular Alternative, he was the first official candidate for mayor, but then just under two months after the vote there was a break. No AP, Baiocco runs alone with Forza Perugia and Alernativa Riformista with Italexit. Also there for the challenge at Palazzo dei Priori is Leonardo Caponi, 75 years old, journalist, former senator of the Communist Party with the Perugia against War and Neoliberalism-PCI list.
Pay attention to balances and symbols. Because if Pensa Perugia supports Ferdinandi, there is Action of which Giacomo Leonelli is the regional coordinator (who was supposed to run for mayor with his project), with Monni there are the Socialist Party, Tempi Nuovi and also Italia Viva present in the symbol of the list . But the Socialists for Perugia are inside the federated list with Ferdinandi, just to mention the balance in an electoral challenge that has never started so early as this time. Everyone is looking at how the parties will fare, but already like ten years ago, and even more so in the last municipal elections, due to the challenge at Palazzo dei Priori, the weight of the civic lists can still be decisive. Five years ago there were ten candidates for mayor. In the first round, victory for Andrea Romizi with 59.8% over Giuliano Giubilei with 29.56%. There are 130 thousand people from Perugia voting.
