Those underpasses that could solve the traffic problem in Monza

Monza suffocated in the grip of traffic, especially during rush hours and on the major roads entering the city. What if the problem could be solved by creating underpasses in those points? After the maxi tunnel of Viale Lombardia and the tunnel of Viale delle Industrie, the Coordination of committees and associations hypothesizes the construction of other road underpasses to overcome the problem in the most delicate points of the city.

Where to build the underpasses

A proposal that is put forward directly to the Pilotto council in the document of observations on the PUMS (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan) presented by the mayor Paolo Pilotto and the traffic councilor Giada Turato months ago. The Coordination, led by Giorgio Maioli, proposes the construction of the landfill of via Boccaccio (both to reconstitute the spatial unity between the Boschetti Reale and the Park and to solve the problem of car traffic coming from the east – west routes), thus definitively closing vehicular traffic within the Park along Viale Cavriga. The document also provides for the construction of road underpasses in the intersections of Viale delle Industrie with Viale Stucchi (to be buried) with Via Salvadori and Via Sant’Albino (on the surface with roundabouts); of Viale Stucchi with Viale Sicilia and of Viale Stucchi with Libertà (already financed by the Esselunga PII).

Who supports the project

Traffic is a serious problem that has been suffocating the city of Monza for decades. The Coordination hypothesizes the construction of underpasses to try to manage traffic, especially during rush hours. “This fact would make those crossings, a daily source of queues and induced pollution, smoother – we read in the document -. Also considering the hypothesis, with the appropriate provincial, regional and state funding, of burying the entire stretch of those avenues from via Salvadori to viale Sicilia”.
