“Giovanni da Legnano” Award: here are the winners of the Centenary

135 participating school students secondary schools in the area. A hymn to friendship

Legnano – A classic event that of Giovanni da Legnano Award” which testifies despite everything to how much interest in poetry, storytelling and history is still alive in the new generations of children. The 2024 edition saw the participation of 135 students from first and second level secondary schools of the Districts of Legnano, Parabiago, Castano Primo, Busto Arsizio, Magenta.

In the elegant location of the Sala Giare at Villa Jucker, headquarters of the Legnanese familythe best works in the various sections that compose it were awarded: poetry, fiction, historical fiction with a novelty dedicated to the Centenary of the City of Legnano.

“This awardunderlined the Mayor Lorenzo Radicein the years that we have just left behind, it has opened a glimpse of great interest into the experiences of young people during the Covid period and the consequences that the pandemic has had on them. In this edition the most recurring core of interest is friendship, an indication of a normality that is slowly recovering.”

“Undoubtedly, young people are thirsty and hungry for words that explore the essence of the human being, the soul of the individual to reveal the most meaningful thoughts, feelings, emotions, to discover the meaning of life. The word reveals truth. It is exciting to read poetic texts that express delicate feelings, emotional participation towards those less fortunate, interest in the past, awareness of one’s role as citizens despite their very young age. Talking and talking about yourself to exorcise fears and share difficulties to win together” – underlined the President of the Jury, Monsignor Angelo Cairati.

A section also dedicated to the Centenary of the City of Legnano

On behalf of Banco BPM, which has been close to realizing the award for years, he expressed his opinion Dante Baronhead of the Milan Province West Area: “poetry has the ability to make everything simple and accessible, a means to rediscover one’s self, and to make oneself more human. Banco BPM is close to the Legnanese family which for 29 editions has offered young pens the opportunity to express their talent. A way to always be present in strengthening the bond with the Legnano area, in sharing initiatives aimed at giving value to culture and solidarity”.

The President of the Legnanese Family Gianfranco Bononi together with the President of the Legnanese Family Foundation, Giuseppe Colombo, highlighted the pride in preserving this tradition linked to the literary prize. An event that is renewed with great pleasure and which enhances the expressive ability and sensitivity of the children.

Also present was the Grand Master of the College of Captains, Raffaele Bonito and the Vice President of the Palio di Legnano Foundation, Luca Roveda.

The delivery of the certificates to the finalists was alternated with pleasant musical breaks by the young violinist, Giacomo Cultrarostudent of Jubilate Music School of Legnanowhile the reading of the texts was entrusted to Luciano Mastellari.

A special recognition also to Franco Tosi middle school which obtained the record in the greatest number of finalists and works produced.
