a 16-page insert on Sunday in L’Eco

On Sunday 12 May on L’Eco di Bergamo readers will find a 16-page insert dedicated to the electoral lists for the 2024 administrative elections in the Bergamo municipalities. There are 164 municipal administrations in the province of Bergamo that will vote for the renewal of the municipal council on 8 and 9 June. In addition to the capital, there are four cities with over 15 thousand inhabitants that could reach the ballot: Seriate, Dalmine, Albino and Romano. In addition to the analyzes on the major centres, they will be published in the insert the lists of candidates for each individual municipality. The deadline for submitting names is Saturday, May 11 at noon.

There are 323 mayoral candidates and 351 lists running in the Bergamo area, based on what was deposited by midday on Saturday in the municipalities involved. Now the electoral commissions are examining the regularity of the candidatures. Which once again show a decline, albeit limited: five years ago there were 347 aspiring first citizens, and 363 lists (however, two more Municipalities went to vote: 166 in total). The reasons for the decrease may also have strictly local reasons, but the trend has been evident for some years now. On the other hand, it should be noted that in all municipalities there is at least one candidate for mayor. It was not a given: in 2019, for example, Oneta, Colere and Valleve were placed under commissionership (for a year) without going through the polls, due to the total absence of aspiring first citizens. However, there are numerous municipalities (46) with a single team running: in these situations the challenge to lead the municipality will be with a quorum.
