The sunspot region 3664 continues to remain very active and after last night’s extreme G5 geomagnetic storm, accompanied by an explosion of polar auroras around the world, could also provide an encore this evening. This afternoon, lo NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) has confirmed that G5 geomagnetic storm conditions have been reached again, the highest class. The 3664 region has been responsible for much of the geomagnetic storm and associated activity over the past few days and could provide more surprises. According to the latest aurora forecasts developed by the SWPC, the show of colored lights in the sky could appear again in Italy this night.

According to the map, the aurora could start to be visible from Northern Italy between 10.30pm and 11pm, extending to the Central and Southern regions. Obviously, one cannot be certain about these forecasts, even less about the times, considering the unpredictability of the phenomenon. So the possibility is there anyway it will definitely be worth raising your eyes towards the sky in the hope of being able to admire the polar lights again up to our latitudes.
