The dioceses of Porto-Santa Rufina and Civitavecchia-Tarquinia participate in the ninth edition of the “Long night of the churches” with the event “In the looks of Mary”, which will be held on 7 June at 9pm in the ancient church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Piazza Santa Maria in Cerveteri. Entrance is free.

“Long Night of the Churches” is an event of national importance which involves dioceses, parishes and associations in the organization of a day in which places come alive with artistic and cultural initiatives in a key of reflection and spirituality. This year’s theme is “Find me!”.

The event proposed by the two Churches united in the person of Bishop Gianrico Ruzza is part of the initiatives for the Marian Year that the diocese of Porto-Santa Rufina is experiencing. The figure of the Madonna is proposed in the dialogue between the poems of Egildo Spada, read by Agostino De Angelis, and pieces of the classical musical tradition interpreted by the choir “l’Insieme Harmonico” directed by Pietro Rosati and Silvia Patricelli. Spada’s words, taken from the collection “Etere d’inverno”, published by Fuorilinea, are part of the “Per Maria” section.

The poet walks through some “rooms” in which he observes and recounts Mary’s heart and faith through the story of her son Jesus. For her, the mystery must be contemplated and witnessed beyond all doubt and drama. And it is in her silences that art becomes prayer because it manages to preserve the inexhaustible fullness of the sacred by always offering new interpretations that help men of all times to enter into a relationship with the divine. Art and prayer in fact allow us to find God and others in an encounter between creator and creatures. The dialogue between them generates the possibility of living a spiritual and artistic experience: contemplating the beauty of truth.
