Three million to improve the province’s ports and fishing in general. These are the ones that the Gal Pesca “Torri e Tonnare del Litorale Trapani” will have at its disposal following the signing of the agreement for the implementation of the Local Development Strategy.

The agreement was signed by Francesco La Sala, mayor of San Vito and president of the Gal Pesca “Torri e Tonnare del Litorale Trapani”, and by Alberto Pulizzi, director of the Mediterranean Fisheries Department of the Department of Agriculture and Local Development and Mediterranean Fisheries.

There are three million and 100 thousand euros of funds intended to improve the infrastructure, services and sustainability of the fishing sector. Specifically, the improvement of port infrastructures in Trapani, Marsala, Mazara and San Vito Lo Capo is planned to support coastal fishing; optimize the infrastructure of coastal beaches to offer equipped free beach services; collaboration with Mediterranean regions to promote sustainable growth in the marine economy; ensure greater transparency in the supply chain with the certification of the local origin of the catch and traceability through blockchain technology.

Also envisaged is the promotion of fish-based culinary traditions for the development of sustainable tourism and, again, support for fishing fleets in the adoption of clean engines and technologies to tackle climate change, up to the active involvement of fishermen in the protection of marine resources, to the development of services such as fishing and fishing tourism to promote sustainable tourism. Furthermore, among the actions envisaged is the creation of a permanent center for the coordination of local policies related to fishing.

“In the coming months, all the interventions, designed and coordinated with local actors, will see a concrete start – these are the words of Francesco La Sala, president of the Gal “Torri e Tonnare del Litorale Trapanese” -, in order to contribute to growth in the coastal areas, promoting a sustainable blue economy and enhancing the human, social, cultural and environmental resources of local communities operating in the small-scale artisanal fishing sector, integrating the fishing and aquaculture sectors with those of the Blue Economy”.
