«I have two older sisters: the first is a surgeon and the second deals with communications».
What did he do after school?
«After high school I enrolled at university in Biotechnological Sciences, also considering that my father worked for the transport of blood in ambulances. However, I never graduated because in the meantime I started working as a scientific informant while continuing to do shows. At 27, however, I decided to focus only on acting.”
His father’s reaction?
«Tragic. My parents have always supported me, but they hoped that I would pursue theater as a hobby: keeping one foot in both shoes was tiring, and I was very tired. After working in the hospital I resigned to move to Rome and work at Coca-Cola: I woke up every day at 3 in the morning, went to work, came home around 5, washed myself, ate something quickly and then I would go and do the show until 1 in the morning. At a certain point I couldn’t stand it any longer and gave up the job, even though I had an advantageous contract.”
Was it worth it, in hindsight?
«I would say yes. It all started very slowly and then one project after another followed: first the show The mayor of Rione Sanità of Martone, then Gomorrahthen Martone again at the cinema, then i Bastards of Pizzofalcone and, immediately after Covid, A Place in the Sun. My mother now has a big smile like this when she sees me on the air.”
Why did she return to the town where she grew up?
«Because, with a small child, I needed a hand that only my parents could guarantee me, not to mention my work and that of Antimo».
Has Casalnuovo ever been close to you?
«Yes, and it’s still tight on me today. This is why I left at 24: I suffer a bit from the closed mentality of the country. In the future I would like to return to live in Naples, perhaps when my son is older.”

For some, taking part in a soap like A Place in the Sun it is a blessing and for others a chain. For her?
«I am very grateful for what I have, and I can tell you that I have never experienced my presence badly A Place in the Sunalso because I do other things at the same time, like Commissioner Ricciardi and the theatre. Then, of course, we will see what the future holds for us.”
Speaking of the future: am I wrong or will 2024 be the year I turn 40?
«He’s not wrong. I’ll do them in July, but to be honest I’m not feeling them. I have organized a nice party that I will have with my family and friends, moving forward with the location as summer is a season full of weddings and commitments.”
What is Daniela Ioia afraid of?
«To lose the people I love. Last December I suffered a burglary at my house, and since then I have started to be afraid of taking my son to crowded places because I fear they might take him away from me. That theft made me understand that anyone can come and take away what you have, and that scares me.”
