While waiting for the final evening at the Alighieri Theatre, “Pazzi di jazz Young project” on Monday 13th at the Alighieri Theatre, the festival Ravenna Jazz proposes a last concert of his program “Ravenna 51° Jazz Club”. Sunday 12 May at 9.30 pm the Teatro Socjale of Piangipane will welcome Jazzmeia Hornsinger who is quickly passed by status from a rising star of African-American singing to that of a young diva. She will be accompanied by a rhythm group including Jordan Williams on piano, Jason Clotter on double bass and Michael Reed on drums.

Born in Dallas in 1991, Jazzmeia Horn she grew up in a very religious family. And indeed his first approach to singing was linked to the Church, with gospel. Despite the prophetic name (it is indeed his), the discovery of jazz for Jazzmeia only came in the years of high school. Having moved to New York in 2009, she developed a vocal style that quickly attracted attention: she seems like the perfect modern incarnation of the great divas who established the canon of jazz song. She then began to be called up by leaders of the caliber of Billy Harper, Delfeayo Marsalis, Mike LeDonne, Peter Bernstein, Johnny O’Neal, Vincent Herring, Kirk Lightsey, Frank Wess, Ellis Marsalis, Winard Harper, Junior Mance.
In 2013 wins the first place in the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz CompetitionWhile in 2015 he won the real lottery for every aspiring jazz musician: the Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Competition. This statement gives her the opportunity to have an impact A Social Call (Prestige, 2017): Suddenly his talent is revealed to the international scene. Those of the Grammy Awards (who twice included her in the list of her nominations) and those of DownBeatwhich instead crowned her as the best emerging female voice in 2018.

With his second disc (Love & Liberation of 2019) Jazzmeia renews the success of her debut: the maturity and confidence in her vocal abilities are that of a veteran artist, certainly not that of a young debutant. With the third album, Dear Love (2021), Jazzmeia confronts orchestral jazz for the first time, with fresh and authoritative ideas.
