PESARO -Scenes from a wedding. Of those weddings in which everything seems perfect and the correspondences of loving senses are flaunted. But in reality, as in Bergman’s film, the cracks are certainly there. And you can see them in the details, behind the glossy facade. Yesterday, for the electoral tour of PD secretary Elly Schlein in the Marche, the regional party tried to put a little blush on the deep scars that lacerate it, presenting itself with good clothes and good intentions. First in Osimo to launch Michela Glorio’s candidacy, then in Urbino for that of Federico Scaramucci and finally in Pesaro, the culmination of the day. In the city, the capital of culture, the stage set up in Piazzale Collenuccio is the perfect synthesis of the internal dynamics of the Marche PD one and three.
In theory it should have been above all the event to support Andrea Biancani’s bid for the highest seat in the Municipality, but his hardback was a postage stamp in the background. Ok that he is already considered a winner by all bookmakers, but at least political etiquette. Instead, standing on the sides of the stage were the large electoral holy cards of Matteo Ricci, the outgoing mayor who is now aiming for a place as an MEP. «The tour is also for the candidacies in Brussels», the local democrats try to justify the disproportion. With all due respect to the other two members of the Democratic Party who took part in the European elections, the former undersecretary Alessia Morani and the mayor of Arquata del Tronto Michele Franchi, who in fact looked a little astonished (and annoyed) at Ricci’s XXL hardbacks . But yesterday, in fact, was the day of ostentatious unity.
The team
There will be time for controversy. «We are stubbornly unitary, even when they make fun of us», joked secretary Schlein during the Urbino stop. And in Pesaro, on the controversy also made by Biancani himself on the “crowded race” of the Marche Democrats in Brussels, he reverses the equation: “Are three candidates too many for the Marche? The opposite. We have put together a sensational team. I challenge you to find another political force that has presented such plural lists, which combine politics and civil society. Alongside names like Annunziata, Strada, Pedretti and Tarquinio we put the best energies of the Democratic Party.” And so on with the list made in Marche: «Matteo Ricci can bring the concreteness of the good he has been able to do in Pesaro in 10 years, the same thing we can say about another good administrator, Michele Franchi, mayor of Arquata del Tronto, municipality heavily affected by the earthquake. And we are happy that Alessia Morani is running. We are at their side.”
From the stage the first to speak is Biancani, followed by Morani who attacks head-on the government majority “of fake patriots, who when there was really a need for patriots like in the Covid period, didn’t help in the slightest”. Then it’s Franchi’s turn, who intones an evergreen for the Democratic Party: «Many divisions have led us to defeat. Now I’m happy to see this unity.”
Love is eternal as long as it lasts. The microphone then passes to Ricci, who reiterates once again how «the Region suffers Pesaro» (translated: the governor Francesco Acquaroli suffers Ricci and the possibility of finding him against him at the next Regionals) and how from here, from this city Biancani will win the Democratic Party’s comeback will start again in the first round.” It is the dem secretary who takes stock, touching on all the key issues of the Pd duo: from the minimum wage to the environment, from social issues to civil rights. She attacks the Region and the Government on health care which has “severely worsened since they have been there” and thanks from the stage “those who governed well for 10 years in Pesaro like Matteo Ricci. I am sure that there will be continuity of good governance with Andrea Biancani. Our idea of the left will also be rebuilt from Pesaro: concrete policies and social equality.” Before leaving the Marche for Emilia Romagna, stopping every two steps for a selfie, Schline finally stops at the “Drink talk: sips of feminism” event. The perfect ending.
