Yet another attempted scam against an elderly woman, this time with slightly different methods: they actually managed to “infiltrate” the lady’s cell phone, but it’s still not clear how. The victim of the affair was a 77-year-old pensioner from Bergamo, who was contacted on her home number on April 30th, around 5pm.
As the pensioner told The Echo of Bergamothe call opened with the most classic of tricks: the fake policeman, who tells of his son who was the victim of a serious accident, which also involved a mysterious lady who is now in serious condition.
The woman, aware that it was presumably a scam attempt, hung up, but was immediately contacted a second time insistently: they asked for her mobile number, to contact a lawyer. Number that the 77-year-old finally gave.
She was unable to call her son
At that point the scammers started asking for money: sixteen thousand euros, plus some valuable goods. Once again she ended the call, but here’s the surprise: when she tried to contact her son, to make sure of his condition, they always answered on the other end of the phone.
The woman then turned to her neighbor, from whom she called the police – the real ones. She then also told the story to the postal police, who explained that they had not received any other reports of this type. Meanwhile, the pensioner also turned to her telephone provider to understand the nature of the tampering.
