Lamezia Terme Employment Centre, three days of career orientation meetings with students of the “Rambaldi” Technology Center –

Three days of meetings dedicated to orientation, carried out with the participation of officials of the Employment center of Lamezia Terme, took place at the city school facility Higher Education of the “Carlo Rambaldi” Technology Center. The activities – as reported in a note – were aimed at the students of the third and fourth classes of the Institute, now close to facing the choices that they will soon be called upon to make to build their future.

The presence of the CPI (Employment Centre) delegation allowed the students who are approaching the end of the five-year period to be able to delve deeper into various topics: among these, the internships and apprenticeship contracts which could represent for them a first and concrete approach to the increasingly complex world of work.

The opening day

The start of the activities was marked by the head teacher Anna Primavera, who underlined the importance of “guide young people to search for their talents and to continue orientation activities in the post-diploma phase“, and the director of the Labor Department of the Calabria Region Cosimo Cuomo. The latter instead focused on the opportunities introduced by the Region which “through the 15 Employment Centers active in the area, it has profiled around 100 thousand users available for work, creating a vast database from which companies can draw”. Cuomo also recalled the benefits provided for young people who choose to invest in self-entrepreneurship.

Also present was the person responsible for the Lamezia Terme Employment Center Vincenzo Canonaco (in the photo with the Primavera manager) who recalled the orientation activity carried out by the CPI towards young people, in the various phases of transition from higher education to university and subsequently towards entry into the world of work, addressing the young people I invite you to present yourself at the Center in order to undertake an individualized orientation path. Canonaco then underlined the importance of avoiding the danger that young students, after graduating from high school, become part of the so-called NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), i.e. those who do not study do not work and who, in this particular historical moment, represent a constantly growing category. “A trend that – as was underlined by those present – it absolutely must be reversed”.

The meeting was an opportunity to illustrate to the young people present the services offered by the CPI:

From the GOL Program – Workers’ Employability Guarantee to EURES – the European network for working abroad, from techniques for drawing up an efficient CV to job search methods, up to advice on how to apply on institutional portals and prepare to take job interviews selection. Existing alternatives were also proposed for those who do not intend to access university education, such as the Higher Technical Institutes (ITS) which issue qualifications that can be immediately used in the job market and, in some technical sectors, more attractive for companies looking for personnel.

The three days of training and orientation sought to respond to the need to confront young people with the complex reality of work, underlining that in this context the challenges can only be faced more effectively if one is informed and aware.
