Suppression of a corpse, fraud against the INPS and improper use of a credit card. The deputy public prosecutor of Sulmona, Edoardo Mariotti, has closed the preliminary investigations into the death of 81-year-old Bruno Delnegro from Trani, found on 30 July 2022 along the road leading to Castrovalva, a hamlet of Anversa degli Abruzzi, wrapped in a sheet and inside a sleeping bag.
The prosecutor’s office confirmed the charges against the three sons and the daughter-in-law: in particular, one of the sons and his partner are responsible for the suppression of a corpse, aggravated fraud against the INPS and improper use of the elderly man’s credit card. Notice of investigation also for the other two children, who are accused only of fraud and of using the credit card. For both, the complicity of the crime in the suppression of the body was dropped, the name of which remained unknown for eight months until the investigation by the Carabinieri who, in July last year, managed to reconstruct the entire affair.
According to the accusation, in fact, the elderly man – at the time bedridden and unable to take care of himself – was found dead in his bed by one of his sons who, in collaboration with his partner, decided to get rid of the corpse by stripping it and putting him in a sleeping bag, and then abandoning him along a road in the Abruzzo area, after having traveled about 350 km from Trani by car. All this in order to continue to receive the relative’s pension of around 3000 euros per month, managing to collect a total of around 60,000 euros with equal damage to the INPS.
As mentioned, in the meantime, the position of two of Delnegro’s three sons is lightened. Regarding one of them, Benito Delnegro, the lawyers Maurizio Sasso and Giancarlo Falco make it known that «the crystallization of the accusatory hypothesis allows us to deny the information initially provided by the military to the press, in which Benito’s position was unduly associated Delnegro to the “suppression and concealment of a corpse”, with unfair discredit to the detriment of the patient who receives the esteem of the entire community in which he lives. As reiterated several times since the origin of this sad story – and now confirmed with the conclusion of the investigations – Benito del Negro was absolutely unaware of the disappearance of his parent, with whom he had not had personal relationships, or even telephone ones, for several years. due to radical family differences that forced him to move away from his family of origin.”
