Thousands in Piazza Municipio for the final act of the “Be wise, drive safe” project

Thousands attended the final day of the “Be wise, drive safe” project which was held in Piazza Municipio in Naples. A day of celebration to convey a sense of responsibility to young people in secondary schools and universities towards their life but also that of others when they are driving.
This is the spirit of the ‘Be wise, drive safe’ initiative, promoted by the Campania Region and implemented by Anci Campania in collaboration with the Meridiani association, whose “security village” became for many hours a terminal for discussing how to protect our children from the “Saturday night” massacres. Although down compared to 2022, in 2023 there were 44,778 road accidents with 495 deaths and 24,701 injuries.
«It is really encouraging – said the president of Anci Campania, CarloMarino – to see so much participation in an event dedicated to road safety, especially among young people. Initiatives such as “Be wise, drive safe” are essential to raise awareness and educate new generations on the importance of responsibility and respect for the rules when behind the wheel. We hope that this initiative will continue to grow and involve more and more young people, thus contributing to reducing road accidents and protecting everyone’s lives.”

The project, now in its tenth edition, over the course of the year, 32 training and information meetings were held throughout the Campania region and there were over 8 thousand students of the first and second degree institutes, but also of the universities of Campania, which were trained by law enforcement personnel, firefighters, road safety experts who were assisted by Alfonso Montella, president of the Technical Commission – project scientist and road safety professor at the Federico II University of Naples.

The role of the Campania Region is decisive in raising awareness on the issue of road safety. President De Luca, who participated in all phases of the project and who cut the ribbon of the “security village”, personally launched an appeal to the young students. «This theme – he said – is of great importance to us because it aims to promote cultural change in society. It is essential that we all engage together and actively, working to create a safer environment on the roads. Young people are often less aware of the risks associated with driving and can be more prone to risky behavior. Teach young people the importance of responsibility and respect for traffic laws – concluded the governor speaking from the stage – can help them develop safe and responsible driving habits that will accompany them throughout their lives».
