“The future arrives by bicycle” is the slogan that accompanies the 2024 edition of Bimbimbici, the national Fiab event that has animated Italian cities for over twenty years to spread the commitment to the issues of sustainable and active mobility starting from education of children and young people, asking for an increase in school roads, safe routes to protect pedestrians and cyclists and measures to contain vehicular traffic.

In Piacenza, thanks to the collaboration between Fiab Amolabici and the municipal administration, with the support of Coop Alleanza, the event is renewed on Saturday 11 May, with a meeting at 2.30 pm on the Pubblico Passeggio near the Respighi high school. It will be an opportunity, with the involvement of the Provincial Committee of the Italian Red Cross, to also celebrate the 160th anniversary of the movement founded by Henry Dunant and to make another stage in the process of approaching the “Grand Départ” which on 1 July will see Piacenza among the protagonist cities of the all-Italian start of the Tour de France.

All citizens and families who want to join the route are invited to show up, to experience a ride together that will cross the historic center following an itinerary which, along the Facsal, will reach viale Patrioti and from here via IV Novembre, to then take the route via Alberici – via Giordani and from here Piazza Sant’Antonino, the street of the same name up to Largo Battisti, Piazza Cavalli (with a stop for the traditional group photo) and, from here, continue towards Via Illica and Via Garibaldi reaching Piazza Borgo, via Castello and the Viale Malta cycle path, until returning to Piazzale Genova, where the event is scheduled to end at 4.30 pm.

The aim is to learn more about the cycle and pedestrian paths that encourage two-wheeled travel in the city. In fact, the organizers remind us that “for children and young people, the bicycle constitutes the best practical knowledge that strengthens the bridges between school knowledge and real experience. The conscious use of the bicycle constitutes a valid example of expert competence that requires a set of knowledge and skills, promotes the person’s autonomy and responsibility, and encourages them to regulate their behavior. For this reason, our association builds an educational path that teaches students, from nursery to primary school, to experience the road in a more careful, safe and responsible way as protagonists of traffic, both as pedestrians and as cyclists and future motorcyclists or motorists”.
