The Department of Culture of the City of Trani invites the presentation of the book PANE E ZUCCHERO by Sandro Ghiani and Rosa Castrogiovanni. Giuseppe del Curatolo will dialogue with the authors.

During the meeting the actor Michele Lattanzio will read some selected passages from the novel and a film will be screened with an anthological montage of some memorable scenes taken from the filmography of the most famous Sardinian character actor in Italian comedy.

The book

The book is a sort of fictionalized autobiography of the popular actor’s childhood and early youth, co-written with his wife and published in self-publishing, with direct distribution on Amazon or on the occasion of the numerous presentation meetings that the authors are holding with great success throughout Italy, during the long tour that also took them to Trani.

In Pane e Zucchero there are extraordinary memories that, very generously, Sandro Ghiani wanted to give to his readers, his public, his fans who admire him and know him in all other guises, for his work so entertaining which made him absolute protagonist of Italian Cinema, making them part of his life told by himself in the form of a novel, through Rosa Castrogiovanni’s compelling writing. All the most dramatic and bright moments of an uncommon life are relived, against the backdrop of a Sardinia that almost seems to really live through reading. An unsuspecting book, full of twists and turns, extraordinary encounters and very high experiences.

As the notes indicate: The ruthless, tragic, ironic, sometimes comical diary of Antonello – Sandro Ghiani’s alter ego – is a thirty-year excursion into Italian history and customs. From rural Sardinia in the fifties to the seminary, from the factories of Piedmont to the magical environment of cinema. That innocent look on the world, which risks confining Antonello to marginalization, will prove to be his strong point. A true story in which the protagonist falls a thousand times, gets up a thousand times… and the reader with him.

The author

Sandro Ghiani was born in Carbonia, in the south-west of Sardinia; he completed his studies in the seminary, at the Don Orione Institute in Tortona, where, with his first amateur shows, he discovered his passion for acting. He has worked for cinema, television, radio and theatre. He has also had experience as a voice actor for cinema and television.

A particularly active character actor in the eighties, his best-known roles are those of the naive Sardinian policeman in numerous films alongside Lino Banfi, Diego Abatantuono, Adriano Celentano, Renato Pozzetto, Jerry Calà and others. Among around a hundred very successful participations in the Italian Comedy, for many fans he remains inextricably linked to the role of Superintendent De Simone in Fracchia the Human Beast.

Bread and Sugar is his second book.
