REGGIO CALABRIA «The soiling of the trees inside the historic garden of the Villa Comunale is a deplorable fact that disfigures the environment, but above all offends the conscience of all citizens». The municipal councilor delegated to Parks and Gardens, Massimiliano Merenda, censures the gesture of those who “by affecting a public good, affect the entire city”. «When we carry out systematic, widespread, daily and orderly maintenance of the municipal Villa – said Merenda – here comes, punctually, the protagonism of the usual idiots. We trust that video surveillance cameras will soon be able to give a face to those who trample on the most basic principles of respect and civic sense.” According to the city councilor «we must not underestimate the importance of an action which, in its banality, represents a real affront to the efforts of those who, every day, do their utmost for the social and civil growth of our territory».

«It is not a prank – he stated – but a senseless and cowardly act that should be blamed and punished as it deserves. The technicians and agronomists of the Municipality’s Environment sector, to whom I would like to thank, have already identified the best system to use to remove, in safety and protection of the trees, the paint imprinted on the trunks and, in the next few hours, they will intervene to clean up the vandalized parts. Anyway, the administration continues on its path to recover the green lung that embellishes the city center». «The municipal Villa – concluded Massimiliano Merenda – represents a supreme asset and, thanks to the work of the mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà and the entire executive, it will soon return to shine with the light that best belongs to it. The overall redevelopment project, in fact, will allow families to fully experience an urban park which is located in the heart of Reggio and which, due to its history, tradition and quality of the plants that find its home there, is an essential reference point for which the community cannot do without”.
