LUSIA (Rovigo) – Il Cavazzana Senior Citizens Center has completed two years since its opening and the guests celebrated by gathering for a snack and a symbolic toast in the presence of the Social Services councilor Lorella Battistella.
The parish priest was a welcome guest Don Enrico Schibuola who imparted the blessing.
The Center is a service strongly supported by the municipal administration led by Luca Prando to give elderly people an opportunity to leave home and meet up to socialize and feel part of a community. The guests, around thirty, are aged between 70 and 85 and anxiously await Tuesday and Thursday mornings to be able to take part in the proposed initiatives, from gentle gymnastics, to small crafts with paper and colours, to games and entertainment activities, tombola. During the morning there is also a moment dedicated to a snack. Furthermore, the administration organizes thematic meetings on topics of social and cultural interest.
During the party for the second anniversary, Mrs. Vittorina, a frequenter of the Centre, read a thought on behalf of all the guests, thanking above all the operators and underlining the value of this service: “It was a lifesaver for us elderly people – she said -, I see on the faces of all the participants an interest in all the proposed initiatives. At this age I think that each of us has a physical disorder, but in these two hours that we spend in company we almost don’t feel them anymore.”
“This is precisely the purpose of the Center – commented the councilor Lorella Battistella -, avoid the isolation of the elderly within the home, make them feel alive and participate in community life, involve them in initiatives that improve their psycho-physical state and well-being”.
