“Milan goes beyond support and work, it is extreme passion”

Interviewed by Radio Serie A, Paolo Maldini he told us what the Milan: “Milan was present before I was born, my father was a footballer and captain in the 60s. Football was present. For me, Milan is the team of my city, the environment where I grew up, I started at 10 years old and I stopped at 41. It goes beyond cheering and work, it is extreme passion. At this point it won’t change, the relationship goes beyond the eras I’ve been through.”

What does it mean to be a Milan fan? “I believe that in every team, since we talk about passion, every fan claims something different: we AC Milan fans have a glorious past with falls but then in the end it is easier for the fans to remember the bad moments to return to the good ones “.

What responsibility is it to be the symbol of Milan’s history? “I don’t feel this. When you’re within the club the role imposes it on you. But when I go around I feel like Paolo. However, I believe that over the years people also appreciate you as a person and not just as a footballer: I tried to separate both things. It’s a question of discipline, football should teach you that.”

When did you become a Milan fan? “I liked football, I knew about my father’s past of course. I loved the national team and the first competition was the 1978 World Cup which was Juventus plus Antognoni and I became passionate about those players: I followed Juve as if it were the National team. But in ’78 I tried out at Milan and things went back to how they should be.”
