A protest by port workers took place today at the Ponente Port Gate of the Manfredi Pier, in Salerno.

It was organized by the USB, according to which the crisis of the Compagnia Unica Portuale di Salerno is only the tip of the iceberg of a port system which over the years has sacrificed the interests of workers for those of shipping interests.

During the initiative, the presentation of a complaint was announced to denounce a practice considered illegal, namely self-production. In essence, port activities must be carried out only by port personnel but in the port of Salerno, a part of the activities is carried out by maritime personnel instead. And this first and foremost involves a safety problem and a consequent decline in job opportunities.

The future is at risk working hours of 150 employees of the Flavio Gioia cooperative, involved in port activities. The cut in orders entrusted by companies has led to a very heavy deficit, equal to approximately 650 thousand euros in 2023. In 2024 the port cooperative will lose 12 thousand shifts compared to the previous period.
