“No” to private biomethane plant in La Martella

The Municipality of Matera has expressed an opinion against the project for the construction of a plant for the production of biomethane from the organic fraction of urban waste, proposed on private land adjacent to the former municipal landfill of La Martella.

The will of the municipal administration was presented on the eve of the decision-making services conference, already scheduled for May 15th in the Basilicata Region in Potenza, to evaluate the project proposed by an Apulian company. This political direction was also given by the city council with a unanimous agenda.

“The Municipality of Matera – explained the mayor Domenico Bennardi – among the hypotheses for relaunching the former waste platform of La Martella (there are others in the investigation phase), had hypothesized to build a plant in the public area for the production of biomethane from organic fraction, without however giving any formal follow-up to the idea. The topic, in fact, was preliminarily brought to the attention of the citizens and the city council, as the maximum expression of civic will, registering a firm and firm position. shared opposition. Therefore – added the mayor – at present the will of the people and of the citizens residing in La Martella, which we have respected, goes against the construction of such plants in that area”.
