The new funds come from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan to finance 5 projects to reduce water loss. Here’s which ones and where
TUSCANY — Others arrive in Tuscany 83 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr) for counteract leaks in the water network: the government’s new executive decree assigns a total of an additional billion for this purpose, and the sum allocated to Tuscany is in addition to the 87 million already allocated for a total of 170 million. In this way, financing is ensured for all projects that had already been admitted, explains the Tuscany Region in a note, but not all of them were financed.
The funding will be used to improve the safety of water infrastructure, increase its capacity and reduce losses in water distribution networks. With the new government decree the resources will arrive for 5 projects by Acque Spa, Acquedotto del Fiora, Asa Spa, Geal Spa and Municipality of Zeri.
The President of the Region is satisfied: “With these new resources we reach a total of 270 million in investments, of which the contribution from the Pnrr is 170 million. We are therefore able to give legs to all 8 projects we wanted, thus allowing Tuscany to make a substantial turning point in terms of water infrastructure. It is a sign of modernization and the awareness that it is necessary to deal with climate change.”
With the previous settlement projects had been financed by Publiacqua which covers the Florence-Prato-Pistoia metropolitan area, Gaia Spa which manages the Apuan-Versilia water networks, Nuove Acque Spa in the provinces of Arezzo and Siena. With the new resources the entire regional territory is covered by loss reduction works.
Project by project
But here is the destination of the new resources in detail.
Spa waters (Lower Valdarno): against an investment of 41 million, it will receive a Pnrr loan of 32.6 million with a project entitled Digital4zero – Digitalisation of networks and reduction of water losses with a project entitled Digitalisation, districtisation and efficiency of networks for the reduction of water withdrawals from the environment and primarily from the sources with the greatest qualitative-quantitative vulnerability
Fiora aqueduct (provinces of Grosseto and Siena): against an investment of 42 million, it will receive a Pnrr loan of approximately 20 million with a project entitled Interventions aimed at reducing water losses in distribution networks and the implementation of integrative control and monitoring systems of the remote control system
Asa SpA (provinces of Pisa, Livorno and Siena): against an investment of 21.5 million, it will receive a Pnrr loan of 15.3 million with a project entitled Interventions aimed at reducing water losses in distribution networks and the implementation of systems integrated control and monitoring of the remote control system
Geal SpA (province of Lucca): against an investment of 12 million, it will receive a Pnrr loan of approximately 9 million with a project entitled Completion of the digitalisation and monitoring of the infrastructure for the reduction of water losses in the Municipality of Lucca.
Municipality of Zeri: against an investment of 6.6 million you will receive a Pnrr loan with almost full coverage
