Curious that the expectations and fears of parties flow into the randomness of one drawing by lot. Is Antonio Tajani’s Forza Italia aiming to overtake the League? Is Matteo Salvini’s League afraid of losing votes? Well, on the Forza Italia card it will be first, the League last. It is, of course, just one random order because the citizens will decide, but in the meantime this is how it went at Palazzo Corner Contarini dai Cavalli yesterday morning.

In Venice, in the headquarters of the Court of Appeal, theDistrict electoral officechaired by Elisa Mariani, for the last act of this session in view of European elections of 8 and 9 June. If on 30 April and 1 May the lists were filed and the response from the Supreme Court was subsequently awaited regarding the appeals presented by the recused, yesterday there was the draw. And that is the drawing of lots to decide in which order the 12 lists admitted to voting will appear on the ballot paper and on billboards in the North-East constituency which groups together Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Trentino Alto Adige, Emilia-Romagna. Now it will be up to the Prefecture to arrange for the printing of the electoral material.

The result of the draw? The first symbol at the top left that the voter will find on the ballot will be that of Forza Italia. Following will be the other 11 symbols: United States of Europe, Popular Alternative, Peace Earth Dignity, 5 Star Movement, Freedom, Green Left Alliance, Democratic Party, Brothers of Italy, Action, Svp Südtiroler Volkspartei, League. Only one list representative was present at the drawing operations, Gianluca Schiavon of Pace Terra Dignità.

It should be remembered that the lists presented were 17 in total, but 5 were not admitted: Animalist Party, Sovereign People’s Democracy, Italy of Rights, Italian Catholic Union, Forza Nuova were rejected. The appeals of the Animalist Party and Forza Nuova were then not accepted. Initially, Alternativa Popolare was also excluded, but the Supreme Court readmitted it. There are now 166 candidates for 15 seats up for grabs. This is the challenge between the leaders: Antonio Tajani Forza Italia, Graham Roberto Watson United States of Europe, Stefano Bandecchi Alternativa Popolare, Raniero Luigi La Valle Pace Terra Dignità, Sabrina Pignedoli Movimento 5 Stelle, Cateno De Luca Libertà, Cristina Guarda Alleanza Verdi Sinistra , Stefano Bonaccini Pd, Giorgia Meloni Fratelli d’Italia, Carlo Calenda Azione, Herbert Dorfmann Svp, Paolo Borchia Lega.

The June vote will also be a test in view of the regional elections that will affect the Veneto between 2025 and 2026 (the date has not yet been decided): unless there are surprises, the third mandate for the governors will not be granted and for the Luca Zaia all the centre-right parties, therefore also Fratelli d’Italia and Forza Italia, have already come forward. The reference will be that of the 2022 policies, when in Veneto FdI obtained 33%, the League plummeted to 14.6 and Forza Italia rose to 7.4.
