The Lions Club Gallarate Sepriowith a view to realizing the national service “0 impact club“, in collaboration with some commercial activitiesdecided to promote the campaign recycling of broken, faulty or simply obsolete smartphones in the city of Cassano Magnago through the partner Andrea Pisani.
It will be an enormous benefit to the environment (every year approximately 1.5 billion mobile phones are thrown away in the world) which will be accompanied by the awareness campaign towards the population on the value of environmental protection linked to electrical and electronic waste, in close connection with theObjective 15 of the UN 2030 agenda.
The collected devices, through four special boxes, will subsequently be sent to correct disposal for the recovery of raw materials with which new digital devices can be created. A simple gesture with which citizens will be able to make a great contribution to the environment and make their digital lifestyle sustainable.
Some data to help understand the scope of the operation if proposed on a large scale: to produce a smartphone at least 30kg of rocks are excavated with related energy consumption, deforestation and pollution; a smartphone is up to 96% recyclable; from each device precious resources such as gold, silver, palladium, iron, cobalt, copper and rare earths are recovered; each recycled appliance is equivalent to 1kWh of energy and 0.8kg less CO2 emissions.
The Club has already entered into a collaboration agreement with the shop Repair & Services Cell Phone Repair on via Dante20 in Cassano Magnago where the owner Davide Marchetti has delivered an initial stock of material to be recycled and has committed to continuing this path until the end of 2024.
The boxes for the delivery of smartphones and cell phones will be located in the following artisan and commercial businesses in Cassano Magnago: Hairdresser Scissors Hands Via San Pio X, 52; VapeRoom 76 Via IV Novembre, 11; New Energy Ssdrl Gym Via Andrea Costa, 7; Muppet Bar Via IV Novembre,86.
