The “Transgression Group” at Melzi di Legnano: “Evil must always be denounced”

«Human beings cannot find alliances in evil, because it will always lead to a negative outcome. Evil must be denounced.” So does the psychologist Angelo Aparo contact person of “Transgression Group” spoke to the fifty middle school students of the Melzi Institute in Legnano. An attentive and silent young audience who today, Tuesday 7 May, also listened to the intense testimony of Marisa Fiorani, mother of Marcella Di Levrano, murdered in 1990 for having given key testimony in the Lecce Maxi Trial. As well as the story of the prisoner Marcos and Antonio ex-convict who left his life as a criminal and «started to feel good about myself and consequently with those around me. Because when we travel certain roads we hurt ourselves first and foremost and at the same time those we love. I only realize today that I alone deprived myself of the possibility of living a happy adolescence like yours.”

This event is part of a complex civic education program that has already been seen two meetings with Major Laghezza at the helm of the Carabinieri Company of Legnano. A civic education project, created in collaboration with the Libera Against Mafia association. «It was a rich and intense journey. This series of meetings stands for There are those who might think that this kind of meetings are too complex for such young students – states the Prof Flavio Merlo head teacher of the Melzi Institute -. But this is not the case, prevention also comes from these moments of reflection. No child is immune and important issues can be addressed in these meetings.”

The special lesson

The importance of recognition, anger, abuse in suffocating one’s identity, the sense of inadequacy, omnipotence and revenge. These are just some of the states of mind explained during the special lesson which began at 10am. Controversial feelings experienced by those approaching the world of illegality. People with profound fragilities who find strength in the group and in carrying out violent actions. And it’s easy to lose your way «When I was little I was bullied – said Antonio -. I was pushed down the stairs. What hurt me most were the laughter of all the comrades present. I still hear them today. Laughing at the evil of others hurts more than a punch. So from then on I became the bully, then in an instant I found myself on the path to crime. Thanks to an accomplice who spilled everything to the police, I was forced to stop: 16 years of sentence. It was my salvation. Use your head, you must not be slaves to anger.”

Antonio has spent a good part of his life committing crimes, and now he has redeemed himself. While Marisa is the mother of a young woman who fell into drug addiction after falling into drug addiction he had the courage to denounce evil. A choice that she paid for with her life, but her story continues to be an example. Marcella, she was killed at the age of 26 by the Sacra Corona Unita. She was massacred with stones, in a wood. «A full-blown execution – says her mother – because she was considered an infamous woman, she had spoken… she had denounced them.” Only in 2022 was the young victim declared an innocent victim of the mafia. «I still remember that when I went to report his disappearance, they didn’t take me seriously. They told me: ‘Drug addicts do this, then they come back.’ In the newspapers they wrote that she was a prostitute, but I knew that wasn’t true. I didn’t become a civil party in the criminal proceedings, I no longer had faith in justice. Today I can say that I was wrong not everyone is corrupt. I turned to the Libera association, which supported me in this fight. After 30 years I discovered the truth. I am 84 years old, but today I know that Marcella, after becoming a mother, decided to change her path and tell everything to the institutions. She made a “disgrace” to the Salento underworld. Her choice was right: we must always denounce evil.”

The Transgressions group at the Barbara Melzi Institute in Legnano

The Transgression Group

This reality, in 16 years of history, has been able to include prisoners, university students, ordinary citizens and also victims of organized crime. The main objective of the group, made up of an association and a cooperative and founded by Dr. Angelo Aparo, is to identify and explain the motivations that push young people to engage in aggressive and violent behavior. Behaviors that then lead to the path of illegality. From this perspective, the group works within the Bollate prison and through multiple activities seeks critical moments and discussions between the inmates and the world of adolescents. Through specific meetings within the schools, a prevention path is therefore created for young people and at the same time re-education for the condemned.
